Monoliths<\/em> est un projet de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d\u2019images en ligne d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 entre 2015 et 2020. \u00c0 partir d\u2019une photographie de paysage, l\u2019application permet de faire appara\u00eetre une forme g\u00e9om\u00e9trique (cercle, carr\u00e9, triangle ou volume isom\u00e9trique) par permutation d\u2019une partie de l\u2019image.<\/p>\n

Le monolithe n\u2019est pas ajout\u00e9 au paysage. Il est produit \u00e0 partir de l\u2019image elle-m\u00eame, par le d\u00e9placement et le retournement de certaines de ses zones. Une forme appara\u00eet ainsi entre diff\u00e9rents plans de la photographie, parfois \u00e0 la limite du visible. Le paysage semble rester intact tout en \u00e9tant l\u00e9g\u00e8rement perturb\u00e9 : une d\u00e9coupe, un contour ou une rupture dans la perspective en modifie la lecture.<\/p>\n

Le terme \u00ab monolithe \u00bb d\u00e9signe traditionnellement un bloc constitu\u00e9 d\u2019un seul \u00e9l\u00e9ment. Ici, cette mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 est invers\u00e9e. Le monolithe est presque immat\u00e9riel : il n\u2019existe que par l\u2019\u00e9cart cr\u00e9\u00e9 au sein de l\u2019image. Il peut \u00e9voquer une pr\u00e9sence, une architecture impossible, une porte ou un objet de science-fiction, sans jamais devenir compl\u00e8tement autonome par rapport au paysage qui le produit.<\/p>\n

Con\u00e7u comme une application ouverte aux internautes, Monoliths<\/em> permet \u00e0 chacun d\u2019utiliser ce processus \u00e0 partir de ses propres photographies, puis de partager les images g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es sur les r\u00e9seaux sociaux et de participer \u00e0 leur archivage en ligne.<\/p>\n

Le projet propose ainsi une forme de hacking photographique. L\u2019image est d\u00e9coup\u00e9e, d\u00e9plac\u00e9e et d\u00e9tourn\u00e9e, tandis que le processus artistique lui-m\u00eame devient disponible \u00e0 l\u2019appropriation et \u00e0 la circulation. Le terme \u00ab hack \u00bb retrouve ici son sens litt\u00e9ral de couper ou tailler \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019un outil : le paysage devient la mati\u00e8re m\u00eame de cette intervention.<\/p>\n

Monoliths<\/em> is an online image-generation project developed between 2015 and 2020. Starting from a landscape photograph, the application allows a geometric form (circle, square, triangle, or isometric volume) to emerge through the permutation of part of the image.<\/p>\n

The monolith is not added to the landscape. It is produced from the image itself, through the displacement and inversion of some of its areas. A form thus appears between different planes of the photograph, sometimes at the threshold of visibility. The landscape seems to remain intact while being subtly disturbed: a cut, a contour, or a break in perspective alters the way the image is read.<\/p>\n

The term \u201cmonolith\u201d traditionally refers to a block made from a single element. Here, that materiality is reversed. The monolith is almost immaterial: it exists only through the gap created within the image. It may evoke a presence, an impossible architecture, a doorway, or a science-fiction object, without ever becoming fully autonomous from the landscape that produces it.<\/p>\n

Designed as an application open to Internet users, Monoliths<\/em> allows anyone to apply this process to their own photographs, then share the generated images on social networks and contribute to their online archive.<\/p>\n

The project thus proposes a form of photographic hacking. The image is cut, displaced, and diverted, while the artistic process itself becomes available for appropriation and circulation. The word \u201chack\u201d also regains its literal meaning here: to cut or shape something with a tool. The landscape becomes the very material of this intervention.<\/p>\n
